MAQUINA. – simulation
MAQUINA. have shared “simulation”, the latest single from their upcoming album BODY TRANSMISSION, out July 10 on Fuzz Club. It follows the album’s opening track, dança (W21), and it’s a different kind of statement: the Lisbon trio’s first fully instrumental track to date.
That choice changes how the song works. Without a vocal to anchor it, the guitar takes over as the driving force, turned into something closer to a percussion instrument than a melodic one. It chugs, it wails like a siren, it strikes in sharp metallic hits, and the whole thing locks into a tight, motorik pulse that never lets up. There’s no build-and-release structure here, just a sustained, focused push toward the floor.
The video was cut from footage the band shot on their recent first tour of Brazil, which followed close behind a KEXP session and more than 250 gigs across Europe at this point. The band has said the new album was approached differently than past work, with less jamming and more deliberate editing, condensing longer ideas into shorter, tighter tracks. Whether that holds up across the whole record remains to be heard, but on “simulation” alone, the focus is obvious.
